Privileged geography
Because of its insular condition, the land on Chiloe island presents unique conditions for the cultivation of potatoes. Its geographic isolation, combined with a temperate and rainy climate, makes it a disease-free territory.
Origin of potatoes
For 13,000 years the indigenous villagers who habited the confines of South America have consumed potatoes, these forming an important part of their nutritive diet.
After the discovery of the New World, this fruit from the earth was taken in the 16th century from the island of Chiloe to Europe, disseminating throughout that continent and the rest of the world.
